I want to talk about how Richard Hills @richardhills777 earned my vote this year in the Auckland Council elections and why you should vote for him too /1
@richardhills777 I am not a Labour voter, and I have hassled @richardhills777 about his relentless cheerleading for Labour and Jacinda on Twitter and how it cost him credibility with potential voters /2
@richardhills777 To his credit, he engaged and explained why he was looser on Twitter than other media and said he wouldn’t sacrifice his views to make him more palatable to the electorate /3
@richardhills777 Then about a year ago, the Council proposed a new regulation that would increase council-imposed costs for my business by 500%. I asked @richardhills777 if he had a view /4
@richardhills777 .@richardshills777 said I should submit on the regulation, and got the council to accept my submission even though the consultation window had closed /5
@richardhills777 He then encouraged me to come and talk to the submission which I did. Retail development contributions aren’t a sexy topic and it wasn’t easy for me to talk in front of the council /6
@richardhills777 Some councillors were dismissive of my views, but Richard worked to understand our opinions and get them understood by the bureaucrats recommending the regulation /7
@richardhills777 Then, partially as a result of my submission and @richardhills777 ‘s efforts behind the scenes, the proposed regulation was postponed pending a full review! /8
@richardhills777 I have to say that while @richardhills777 and I will probably never agree on our views for Central Government, he has done a pretty good job as an Auckland Councillor /9
@richardhills777 He worked hard to understand the unintended perverse outcomes of a proposed regulation, and helped a constituent engage successfully with the Council bureaucracy /10
@richardhills777 Especially when that constituent hadn’t done anything to assure him his help would be rewarded. He works hard for all his constituents, engages respectfully, and deserves to be re-elected. /11
@richardhills777 So I will be voting for Richard Hills for North Shore Ward in the Auckland Council elections this year. I don’t usually engage publicly on politics, but we need him to stay in office. You should vote for him too. /12 ENDS
