For Labour to enact their amazing policies they need to win the election. They need to win over Labour leave seats to do this. By becoming a party officially backing remain, there's a real risk Labour will lose these seats by alienating voters in these constituencies. 1/7 #Lab19
Both the country & the party are clearly split on this. To sway one way or the other, as the Tories & Lib Dems have done, is surely not going to solve anything. There has to be compromise on both sides: leavers accepting that there should be another vote... 2/7 #Lab19 #LabConf19
the reasonable one being proposed by Corbyn & Labour - with leave still being an option - but under a much better deal; and remainers need to acknowledge that by Labour being pushed to adopt a staunchly remain position risks completely trashing how far the party's come 3/7 #Lab19
I voted remain, but I personally don't see the problem with Labour, and Corbyn as leader representing the party, remaining neutral & leaving individual MPs & members to vote how they see fit. 4/7 #Lab19 #LabConf19 #LabourConference2019
It's surely a closer reflection of where we are, both as a party & as a country then trying to take sides, which will create more problems, not less. For Labour to have any chance to tackle the huge challenges this country faces - Brexit just being one part - 5/7 #Lab19
and try and redress the deep deep damage & disgrace the Tories have wrought on this country, then they need to win the general election, & that's the part I feel sometimes gets forgotten in all this, & it's the most important one. Not leave. Not remain. 6/7 #Lab19 #LabConf19
And I hope, beg & plead with everyone that has a vote at the conference today that you'll do what's right & vote to ensure Labour goes into the next election armed with it's best chances to win. We've come so far, pls don't fall at the final hurdle. #Lab19 #LabConf19
