So I quickly wrote up notes on why Trump mentioned "CrowdStrike":

I write this up because I hate the explanations trying to debunk Trump saying "there is no server". This totally misstates Trump's position. He's saying the servers were mishandled, not that he knows of a particular server.
Moreover, there's obvious bias in the media. Nobody is debunking the "server" located in Trump Tower secretly talking to Alpha Bank, even though we have unambiguous evidence no such server exists.
Trump's conspiracy theory is still a crazy conspiracy theory, but these lame attempts at debunking it are lame.
Conspiracy theories aren't baseless. Laughing them off does nothing to address why supporters believe in them. It just makes opponents feel better about themselves, and increases the divisiveness in our politics.

As far as I can tell, VPN services like "ExpressVPN" are scams. Last night while listening to a podcast, they had an advertisement for ExpressVPN that claimed it prevented your ISP from eavesdropping on your Google searches. This is not true, VPNs don't do this.
Google uses HTTPS encryption 100% of the time. This prevents anybody but the Google from knowing the content of your searches. Your ISP can only know that you have an encrypted connection to the Google, they cannot know what the connection contains.
Therefore, the advertisement by ExpressVPN is fraud.

IDE's (integrated development environments) have been optional, a secret tool that made you vastly more productive, but now it's become required, for security engineering. I mention this because people still wrongly use 'vim' or 'nano' to edit code.
A say 'secret tool' because most programmers don't use IDEs because of the overhead. They take a lot of learning/training before you can use them, and it's a lot of work to create a "project" before you start editing code.
But once you overcome that hurdle, the payoffs are enormous. Instead of using print statements to debug code, you use a source-level debugger that allows you to examine values. A debugger is no longer something used as a last resort, but something you use just to watch code run.

Errors happen. I mention this because in this day-and-age of social-media toxicity and government corruption, errors are seen as proof that the criticism is illegitimate. No. Your critics will (not 'may' but 'will') make minor errors that does not make their criticisms wrong.
I could be talking about "election security". I hear pushback from election system defenders that the criticisms from infosec have errors. This is true. That doesn't make infosec's position on voting machine weaknesses wrong. The substance is correct, despite minor errors.
I could be talking about Trump's accusation of "Fake News". Sometimes he points to real errors. But what makes the news legitimate is that they correct these errors. Other times he points to things he claims are errors -- but aren't (or at least, there's no proof they are).

Twitter released the tweets of another 418 russian accounts on January 31.
I'm going to use this thread to take a look at the information they gave us about these accounts.
And talk about other bots and trolls you can find using this data.

Of the 418 accounts 1 was a double, @CovfefeNationUS it was already included in the last batch of accounts.
One was not actually suspended until I reminded them.
2 of them had active backup accounts at the time of publication of the data.
around 320 of the accounts I had tweeted about a lot. So i'm not going to bother going back over them.
I found them right after NBC put out the 1st batch of tweets from the russian trolls.
They were bots, and most of the data about what they did is unavailable.
