Neoliberal economists justify the huge inequality in wages between global North and South by saying that the latter have lower productivity.

It's not true. In fact, the reality is exactly the opposite.
Southern workers working in globalized industries have similar productivity levels to their Northern counterparts. After all, in many cases they are working for the very same companies with the same technology (i.e., workers in a GM factory in Mexico, or Nike factory in India).
Indeed, quite often their productivity is higher, as they are subject to much stricter labour regimes, and levels of exploitation that would not be legal in the North.

And yet their wages may be up to thirty times lower.

That is apartheid. It's time for a global minimum wage.
