Imagine a world where male media gatekeepers had pushed back as forcefully on "wild allegations" against Clinton in 2016—instead of pretending like false & unsubstantiated claims about Benghazi, Uranium One or emails were legit lines of inquiry for the sake of bothsidesism.
Not criticizing Jake Tapper, btw—I'm happy to see this. But this is a systemic problem. Good to see @NicolleDWallace break away from a Trump conference last week to fact check false claims, too. All media should've been doing this way since 2015.
In 2016, the msm was quick to gloss over a lack of evidence or wrongdoing re: HRC emails, instead breathlessly reporting every new detail like proof of corruption would bubble up anytime.

The msm has been equally quick to pounce on every affirmation that Biden did nothing wrong.
There's a pervasive assumption that women in power or seeking power are inherently corrupt, even if there is no evidence, bc they "lust for power."

There's a pervasive assumption that white men in power like Joe Biden are good, even if there are ?s, bc they're "public servants."
I'm not saying the media should treat Joe Biden and Ukraine like they treated Hillary with emails. I'm saying that, in cases where there appears to be no evidence of illegality, the media shouldn't breathlessly chase rumors—& should do some introspection about sexist biases.
