"The senior Twitter executive with editorial responsibility for the Middle East is also a part-time officer in the British Army’s psychological warfare unit."

Absolutely despicable @Twitter.
Despicable.

@Twitter Twitter hired a professional military propagandist. And the company isn't even addressing it now that it's been outed.

"Twitter would say only that “we actively encourage all our employees to pursue external interests."
@Twitter Twitter HR department scans resumes. Sees the following and says, you're hired!

"The 77th Brigade's headquarters is located west of London. It brought together a number of existing military units such as the Media Operations Group and the 15 Psychological Operations Group."
@Twitter Because the mass media isn't compromised enough, let's make it even worse:

"In recent months, the army has been approaching British journalists and asking them to join the unit as reservists."
@Twitter We probably wouldn't even know about this if the guy hadn't accidentally mentioned it on his LinkedIn page.

The public has no idea how infiltrated media and tech giants are. Likely swarming with spooks and we are none the wiser.
@Twitter "Twitter also declined to answer questions about its executive’s British Army duties, despite its pledge to disclose further information about state-affiliated information operations."

You'd think this is the sort of thing Twitter should address, but nope.
@Twitter By the way, we've known about the 77th brigade for a while.
I wrote an article about it back in 2015:

@Twitter "The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country."
@Twitter From Propaganda (1928), by Edward Bernays.

Some things never change.
@Twitter "Under the Army’s new organisational doctrine, units combine both fulltime soldiers and territorial reservists. The 77th Brigade recruits its reservists from among UK journalists and professionals in advertising and public relations companies."

Gross.
