Ok, as best I can tell a lot of what we heard yesterday about North Korea's missile test was wrong or confusing. It now looks like a lofted launch of one missile -- a two-stage, 1,900 km-range solid-propellant ballistic missile in the Pukguksong-series from a launcher on land.
The information that cross-correlates is the launch time (7:10 JT), flight time (17 minutes), apogee and range (910 and 450 km). That looks a lot a 1,900 km range missile, although future tests may demonstrate more range.
US officials are calling this a "Pukguksong type" missile. I presume this is the Pukguksong-3, although the DPRK is likely to make an announcement (with pictures) later today. While many people are calling this an SLBM, such a missile could be based at sea or on land.
