“there’s no evidence either Biden did anything wrong,” just said NPR news. really? no evidence of anything criminal, sure. but i think most Americans would consider the sort of sinecure Hunter Biden seems to have won on the strength of proximity to influence “wrong”. 1/
failing to acknowledge this, responding to the pressure and norms of institutional centrists (who are often close to such situations) to flatly claim “nothing wrong” discredits outlets like NPR in the ears of much of the public. and rightly so. /2
none of this is any excuse for Trump’s misuse of his office. Trump should be impeached and removed, for his misuse of presidential power for electoral gain and for many graver reasons. but Trump’s main defense to his own corruption is to point out others’ more genteel 3/
corruption. it’s not obvious that being open about ones corruption is morally worse than engaging in corrupt practices carefully armored behind lprestigious lawyers declaring conformance to the letter of the law. if you want to credibly pursue Trump on grounds of 4/
his corruption, you’ve got to pursue it more broadly than the lawyers for establishment politicians, think-tanks, donors, consultants, contractors, and lobbyists might prefer. /fin
(p.s. it is an unfortunate coincidence that i heard the offending NPR claim just after tweeting a jokey “is your bathroom breeding bidens?”, the point of which is to suggest that Trump’s attitude towards the Bidens is an unwarranted obsessive scapegoating. which it is.)
