Very excited to contribute to @just_security, where I took a granular look through the anti-kleptocracy legislation currently pushing through Congress, and what may be on the horizon: justsecurity.org/66388/congress…
@just_security Some of the anti-kleptocracy bills recently introduced, which have both momentum and bipartisan backing in Congress:

1. The TRAP Act, which would clamp down on dictatorships' ability to abuse INTERPOL, at least in the U.S.
@just_security 2. The Justice for Victims of Kleptocracy Act, which would publicize how much money the U.S. has seized from assorted kleptocratic regimes and their cronies, even if the money hasn't yet been repatriated.
@just_security 3. The Foreign Extortion Prevention Act, which would indict foreign officials demanding bribes of Americans (complementing the FCPA).

Jurisdictional issues aside, this could be a new route for ID'ing candidates for future sanctions designations.
@just_security 4. The CROOK Act, which would set up a rapid-response anti-corruption mechanism, and create anti-corruption points of contact at U.S. embassies abroad.
@just_security 5. The Kleptocrat Exposure Act, which would help U.S. officials publicize which foreign officials (or their family members) have been effectively barred from the U.S. on account of corruption.

(Such as the Romanian official who praised Rudy Giuliani's "anti-corruption" drive.)
@just_security 6. The crème de la crème: bills that would end anonymous shell company formation in the U.S. The legislation already has unprecedented momentum behind it—and would take a huge blow to the U.S.'s role as a global offshore haven.
