The screaming headline in this Telegraph article ("Fury as Speaker John Bercow meets with EU & agrees to prevent a clean break exit") seems to bear no relation whatsoever to the content. So let's assess the evidence on which it builds this incendiary claim telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/…
2. The facts it presents are that the speaker of the EU Parliament, while in London, met the speaker of the UK Parliament - which would not be unusual - and that they agreed "on the importance of the respective roles of our parliaments in managing Brexit". So far, so anodyne.
3. The other opinions quoted are Sassoli's. I can see no evidence anywhere in the article that Bercow "agreed to prevent a clean break exit". Nor does the video of Sassoli's remarks support that claim. This isn't journalism: it's a Brexit Party press release, repackaged as news.
4. The only scandal I can see is that the Telegraph is calling "No Deal" a "clean break exit". As its own journalists - including its excellent Europe Editor - have made clear, it is no such thing. It is a jagged tear that will require years of stitching.
