#WuTangOnHulu Guide for Episode 8 - Labels.

This ep was written to shoot each Act as a "oner" -- one single continuous take. Shout out to Tara (director), Niels (DP), Jon (Steadicam) & whole cast/crew for pulling it off w/ limited resources & abbreviated shooting schedule. 🙏

Bobby meets a player from the Houston Rockets (#FreeHK) who's originally from LeFrak City, Queens and was in the Dunk Contest (on another team) the previous year.

Just-Ice was a rapper from the Bronx who was a Five Percenter and had knowledge of self. He had many dope, classic joints in the 80s and early 90s. One of my personal favs was "Cold Gettin Dumb II"

Bobby, Gary & Ason talk about performing "Pass the Bone" at the club. Produced by Rza, this was a dope joint that didn't make the cut for Gary's "Words from the Genius" album. Was available on the re-release years later tho. #WuTangOnHulu

Gary tells a disappointed Bobby that "Come Do Me" is going to be his first single. You can hear the track playing in this scene. #WuTangOnHulu

Bobby always digging in the crates, looking for stuff to sample. He picks up a Johnny Mathis record. You can hear samples from "No Love (But Your Love)" and "Warm and Tender" on a beat for early Wu demo (and later on a Gravediggaz track). #WuTangOnHulu

And the record owner, Rodney, mentions a 45 record Bobby picked up: Wendy Rene's "After Laughter" -- a song that is sampled on "Tearz" from Wu-Tang's first album. #WuTangOnHulu

In the bargain bin of Kung-Fu tapes, Bobby and Ason find two gems: Ol Dirty Kung Fu (Guai zhao ruan pi she) and Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang -- two films that play an important role in their evolution and growth. #WuTangOnHulu

In this scene, legendary producer Prince Paul walks in rocking a weird Halloween mask. You might recognize it from the De La Soul video for "Ring Ring Ring". Rza and Paul will later collaborate on the Gravediggaz album. #WuTangOnHulu

And, of course, if you want to watch the entire "Ooh, We Love You Rakeem" video (shown during the credits), you can find it online. Rza still hasn't managed to have it scrubbed from the internet. 😂

The track playing in the studio is an instrumental of "7th Chamber" -- a classic song from the first Wu album that features (almost) all the members of the Clan on it. You can see Bobby scribbled "Wu-Tang" on the DAT.
I get the feeling we'll see this DAT again...

Apparently when the inspiration sparks, @Raekwon is known to just write on anything he can find lying around in the studio -- a piece of paper, a pizza box, an album cover. Fun to see Sha scribbling his rhymes on this box of cookies. Can't wait to hear him spit...
