It is such an incredible honor to serve as Grand Marshal for the #AtlantaPride2019 Parade. Thank you to all my LGBTQ+ friends and to the Pride Committee for this incredible honor.
As we join in celebration, we must also remember that there is more work to do — particularly when it comes to stopping discrimination and ending hate crimes, especially those committed against trans women of color. I will be your ally every step of the way.

Georgia’s electorate is growing fast and changing rapidly. We need a strategy with big, early investments to take advantage of Georgia’s strengths by expanding the electorate, particularly with voters of color.
Democrats are in a position in 2020 to replicate and expand upon what my campaign accomplished in 2018. In fact, we are better positioned now. The trends are unmistakable and, with full investment and the right strategy, victory is within our reach. Now, let’s get it done.

During my 2018 campaign for governor, I shared my challenges with debt. In my case, I incurred substantial student loans while pursuing college and graduate education. #gapol
Later, after digging out from heavy credit card debt from school, I built stronger finances through good-paying jobs that allowed me to aid my family with illnesses, rehab and natural disasters.
However, when my parents faced a barrage of crises, including cancer, kinship care and under-employment, I had the privilege of stepping in and providing support. To do so, I deferred tax payments and again incurred credit card debt.

I respect the call for a boycott on Georgia, but I do not believe it is the most effective, strategic choice for change. latimes.com/politics/la-na…
In the pursuit of justice, economic boycotts have long been successful tools. Georgia has witnessed the good effects here and with our neighbors. I strongly support the right of every American to exercise their values through economic protest.
However, I know the perpetrators of #HB481 -- most of them men -- will not be moved by protest. In fact, they want the ability to demonize the film industry while profiting from its presence.

We’ve made great progress in the last 20 years: decriminalizing homosexuality, marriage equality, rapidly growing trans+ visibility & awareness.

But we STILL don’t have a federal law explicitly protecting LGBTQ folks from discrimination in employment, housing or public spaces.
I’m proud Washington State protects LGBTQ people in state law AND:

☑️ protects queer youth from the vile practice of "conversion therapy"
☑️ bans health insurance exclusions for trans people
☑️ allows trans & non-binary people to accurately list their gender identity on forms

...but, as a young person (in my 20s), I identified as a Green (this was pre-Jill Stein awfulness). and most of my generational cohorts identified that or as anarchists...
...very few of us identified as socialists or communists, despite overlapping philosophies/goals. And it wasn't because we despised those ideologies per se...
