The Trump massacre video is a piece of memetic warfare. It’s designed to intimidate those journalists and politicians targeted while spreading, in the population, the notion of mass killings, particularly if criticism and impeachment of Trump isn’t abandoned. 1/
It appears to have originated, at least the concept, from an Info Wars meme contest from a few years ago that was, specifically, presented as a meme war. This is an updated version, but the philosophy and aim is consistent. 2/
I can tell you as someone who covered the 2016 Election, the threats and memes were aimed at journalists and outspoken critics as a constant reminder that speaking out could mean death. They were organized and targeted efforts. 3/
When I researched the extremist communities I found they were fully open and forthright about their intentions. The memes were for intimidation, but also reflected their actual desire to kill journalists. 4/
It’s very normal in these communities for extended, graphic fantasies of slaughtering liberals, journalists, people of color, and openly embracing fascistic regimes of white supremacy. They didn’t bother to hide it. 5/
Many in this country make the mistake of simply shrugging off these videos and comments, but it’s very real. The internet is full of fascistic individuals who are fantasizing about murder and political domination. This video is soaked through with that. 6/6
