EPISODE REVIEWS:
THE LOUD HOUSE - KINGS OF THE CON
THE CASAGRANDES - WALK, DON'T RUN
This is premiere day for #TheCasagrandes, the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated, spin-off of @Nickelodeon's big hit #TheLoudHouse, which preceded the premiere with a half-hour special.
Of course, "Kings of the Con" is the highly touted one which marks the reunions of (all together now) Ace Savvy, One-Eyed Jack and the Full Deck. The last of these are on screen for about one-third of the time.
The rest of the half-hour is basically just an eleven-minute episode padded with the sort of gags that have a your-mileage-may-vary factor put into them. It is about how Lincoln and Clyde convince the sisters to join them at the Ace Savvy convention.
To do this, either Ace Savvy or One-Eyed Jack or the both of them climb into photo booths, hop in cars, grab the Hammer of Justice, and let a felonious cat out of his cage,
The plot description of this episode, on the Encyclopedia, says that "the girls get more attention" at the convention. Sadly, the episode does not bother to give the girls any attention from the time they come to the convention . . .
. . . up until Ace Savvy's signal flashes during a photo shoot, Then, and there, the Full Deck, led by Lori (The High Card), comes to the aid of our main heroes, and pulls every hairball that's stuck to our two young men . . .
. . . who then confess that this was all a publicity stunt to ensure that they win the contest. This is the first time that a Clincoln McCloud episode has hit anything less than a high mark in my writing. That's probably because the episode's promotional campaign . . .
. . . revolved around Ace Savvy, One-Eyed Jack and the Full Deck, and the episode, despite being eleven minutes longer than the last episode in which they were combined, failed to provide an equal opportunity for all three of them. Usually, Lincoln and Clyde do better than that.
A half-hour after the special, #TheCasagrandes made its television premiere. Having already reviewed the first episode, I am going to ask you to click on its own dedicated thread. The second episode of the show, "Walk, Don't Run", is as dandy as the first.
It opens with Ronnie Anne and Sid enjoying a pleasant day on the stairs to their apartment complex, until a camaderie of black cats show up and make her board self-destruct, landing her hand on the floor. They make an arrangement with Mr. Nakamura . . .
. . . whereupon they can walk his dog, Nelson, across the block. For this, they get paid quite a bit of money, which Ronnie Anne is saving up to buy a new skateboard, and Sid a life-size cutout of Yoon Kwan. After getting paid for walking three other dogs . . .
. . . one of whom spits out a clock, Carl follows the young girls into his "office", looking exactly like he came right out of an ad for a federal bank. He makes them a deal where they get paid $4 to walk the family pet, Lalo, after which, the girls are paid to walk poodles . . .
. . . belonging to Vito (who, with this episode, is seen for the first time), All of a sudden, six of the dogs go missing and the girls all plan to retrieve them, Soon, Sid figures out another method: why not walk other dogs instead?
And so, the girls grab dogs from random places and decide to walk them and then the dogs run loose, with Bobby getting exhausted from the hours he has had to spend washing one of them in the Mercado. All of the dogs are then caught in the pen, and when they are let out of it. . .
. . . the girls have their money handed to the guy with the net and the leashes put right in the palm of their hands. There are plenty of fun moments throughout this episode, so many I just cannot name them all.
