Thanks also to @HarvardBiz for pointing this out. Too many companies do good things internally, even improve supply chain sustainability, and then totally abandon climate concerns when lobbying on Capitol Hill.

Many support trade associations actively opposed on climate. And their regulatory and electioneering posture almost inevitably ignores climate. Time to show up, folks, if this really matters to you.

I’ve been warning about a carbon asset bubble crashing fossil fuel stocks, and sea level rise risks crashing coastal property values.

Well, here’s Marisa Drew, of @CreditSuisse, on the “go to zero” scenarios:

Fossil fuel. “There will be a day when the world can be 100% reliant on alternative energy. If you’re in an old school energy business and we hit that moment where we switch, guess what? The value of those old school investments isn’t going to be worth much.”
Coastal property. “In the past, that’s where everybody wanted to be— everybody wants to be on the water. But now you look at that & say, woah, wait a minute, if seas are going to rise 3ft in the next 20 years, those assets may not actually be worth as much.”

“Coll’s book is also the best resource for understanding the standard operating procedures and the central mission of ExxonMobil. Anybody who has written about the company and its leaders in the years since the publication of Private Empire owes a big debt to Coll.”

Using an #America-centric lens to criticize #Turkey for making national security judgements based on a #Turkey-centric lens is analytically dubious.

Whether we like it or not, #Turkey has fought a 40-year #PKK insurgency & sees the #PKK as its No.1 national security threat.

The German government unveiled a major policy package to combat #climate change. The subsequent discussion in the German media shows the huge political and economic cost of a simple-minded focus on #carbon pricing – it’s the 1980s all over again! A Thread @BMF_Bund @JWMason1
The policy package contains a mix of mainly sensible measures: A slowly increasing carbon price, public investment (public trains), subsidies for switching to green technology, transfers to compensate “losers”, and a plan to move out of coal energy.
What happened in the subsequent media discussion is very interesting. As expected, there was critique of certain transfers and subsidies that some groups did not like (“waste of money”). Also, the opposition parties were critical – no surprise here.

Both technocratic and social solutions can be represented in IAMs, but whether it is more feasible to deploy massive negative emissions or to radically change lifestyles should be established by disciplines other than IAMs. 3/3

A week of @ExtinctionR protests begins today across the UK - in Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and here in Bristol, where they will occupy a city centre bridge. The aim to get Govt to change #climate policy, but police are concerned about local short term effects. More @GMB
Police are expecting around 1000 @ExtinctionR protestors in #Bristol, with a large number already in the city. They promise a non-violent campaign to change climate policy, starting this morning with a mindfulness gathering in early morning sunshine.
