/ UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Nils Melzer at yesterday's Prevention of Torture press conference: “What this case is about is that… ten years ago [#JulianAssange] published… prima facie evidence of war crimes…
/ That’s what investigative journalists do… What this should have triggered is investigations by the state(s) of the misconduct.
/ [Instead], as soon as these publications happened, we see that several states started… to initiate proceedings against [#JulianAssange] for just about anything they could…
/ In all of the judicial proceedings [against #JulianAssange] his due process rights have been severely violated. Evidence has been manipulated; his rights have not been respected, even in the UK.
/ It’s only two weeks ago that [#JulianAssange] received access to legal documents. So, for six months he has been detained under intense pressure from the US extradition proceedings, & was asked in court to respond to the indictment, but had not even been able to read it.
/ If that happens in a state like the UK, to me it is very shocking. And judges have expressed open bias against him, have insulted him in court…
/ The way the states have conducted these proceedings cumulatively has isolated [#JulianAssange] and exposed him to an intense campaign of public mobbing and consistent arbitrariness, where the medical consequences were measurable.
/ Not only psychologically but physically…. [following a] clear pattern that is typical for persons exposed to psychological torture.
