In response to the whole “women get fewer followers” situation, here’s a thread of women I think everyone should be following.

#1 @hood_naturalist
She’s funny as hell, loves birds, is a passionate science communicator &speaks against racism, pointing out the bullshit she sees.
2) @1NativeSoilNerd I just met Lydia yesterday after having followed her for a while on here. She’s a gd inspiration. She studies how we can use plants to restore areas wrecked by mining. She’s also an imp. voice in Native American rights. I’ve already learned so much from her.
3) @Afro_Herper Earyn is the shit. She is a herpetologist who is ALWAYS teaching me about lizards on here. Her pictures are super cool, and she started a super popular twitter game #FindThatLizard
4) @itatiVCS I had no idea how important grasslands were until I followed Itati.

She CONSISTENTLY speaks truth to power and she shows the absurdity of academia and the bullshit injustices people of color put up with.

Also her makeup is always👌🏻 & her dog baby is adorable
@kassthefish is a fantastic fish nerd who I met when I was at UL Lafayette! She studies electric fishes which I had NO idea were as abundant as they are. It’s wild.
@JuitaMartinez is another UL Lafayette scientist studying pelicans! She and @paigebyerly are hilarious and blew my MIND teaching me about the instability of the land down there. Pelicans have to stay on their seafaring toes!
You likely already follow @ologies, the podcast run by @alieward but if you’re not GET ON IT. Alie is a FANTASTIC science communicator and often brings badass women scientists onto her show!
@ToadallyPriya, as her handle suggests, studies TOADS! I’ve never met a person more into toads. She’s also wicked funny and her @Ologies episode was a DELIGHT.
@_Astro_Nerd_ will re-instill the child-like wonder in the universe through her posts. She reminds me to go outside and get lost in the stars.

And you might be sending a theme here, but she also calls bullshit when she sees it. Which is often. Because the world is full of it.
