... they also need to do a recut of Elysium without the "happy" ending, so parents can sit down with their children and go "this is the technological marvel our lack of fight will bring you".

If you can apologise to your kids for the horrors they will face created on your watch, and you're ok with that ... then there is nothing you can or will do to combat climate change. At the very least, you'll know you are part of the problem.
If you can't apologise to them ... well, you better start doing something because this is where such cowardice is leading us.
