This is about using a provision on voluntary arbitration in the WTO dispute settlement agreement as a way of getting around the likelihood that new appeals will not be possible after December 10.

Canada-EU was announced in the summer. Now Norway-EU have followed suit.

Green parties have made historic gains, according to the latest forecast.

Overall, the left and the centre have gained ground, prompting speculation about a reshuffle of the multi-party government.

Most people in UK have no idea how hard a Brexit BJ is trying to achieve. His Canada-style FTA version, like what @theresa_may proposed, would give services firms little access to the single market. But unlike her plan it would also exclude manufacturers from single market. /2
By rejecting the idea of aligning with EU rules on goods, BJ will ensure that EU offers only a thin FTA. EU says the threat of Singapore-on-Thames means it wdn't offer zero tariffs. In any case checks for customs and single mkt rules on borders would mean much friction. /3

Excuse the long thread, but I have looked carefully at the #BrexitDeal negotiated by Boris Johnson. Here is my analysis: 1/
Labour’s concerns with Theresa May’s deal were not principally about the backstop. They were about the Political Declaration and our future relationship with the EU after Brexit. 2/
Having reviewed what has been agreed, it is clear that the Johnson deal is a far worse deal than Theresa May’s deal. It paves the way for a decade of deregulation. It gives Johnson licence to slash workers’ rights, environmental standards and consumer protections. 3/

A big week for Brexit, and I thought it would be useful to set out how reaching a deal with the EU is about rather more than just fleshing out the details of a novel customs scheme for Northern Ireland - there would have to be an overall package around this 1/
First recall red lines - for the EU no border or associated checks in Ireland, protection of single market. For the UK, no Customs Union with the EU, protect the integrity of the UK, and something around consent if Northern Ireland follows EU rules 2/
The proposed solution - the special customs zone of Northern Ireland, based on a previous Facilitated Customs Arrangement proposal that was UK wide. Essentially products entering N Ireland from GB may have to pay tariffs if destined for the EU 3/

EU source says that technical talks in Brussels between Boris Johnson's chief Brexit negotiator David Frost and the European Commission have just ended and that talks will resume again on Friday
Source was reticent on content, but I understand the discussions focussed more on the future relationship and less so on the Irish border (as these were technical talks there was a degree of stopping and starting as different officials entered discussions)
My impression is that no formal "concrete" text was put forward on the backstop at today's meeting. On the future relationship London has said it wants a more straightforward FTA with the EU and wants to dump the level-playing field provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement

Political Declaration:

Structure is as proposed by Barnier months back ie Economic Partnership, Security Partnership, Cooperation on Areas of Interest (research etc)

Big Question: Will this be 'Canada Dry' or 'Turkey Plus'
1.
'Ambitious, broad, deep, flexible' partnership means v little ie a free trade agreement (FTA) or customs union plus cooperation on law/justice, foreign policy, security, defence. There won't be frictionless trade,not same rights or obligs as w EU mship, integrity of EU's CU/SM 2.
So big hit to trade in goods & services given not frictionless borders, espec to services given aim for goods is no tariffs/quotas nor rules of origin checks - but will be regulatory checks; proposals for services - equivalence, 'ambitious' etc beyond WTO (not v ambitious) 3.
