1. My best analysis. Certain members of the SDF who are working close to Assad Russian group have given Trump his moment of success. They have no desire to make Trump's life more complicated. They believe that ultimately US is their best hope so they will go along to get along.
2. Under international law, the Assad regime has the right to defend Syrian territory and has SCUD-C and possibly SCUD-D missiles that can reach far into Turkey. Ankara and Istanbul are likely, & Incirlik is definitely, in range. If Assad were to load them with Sarin
3. Ankara could see thousands of deaths in minutes. There is no indication that is contemplated but Trump's decision to annex part of Syria was clearly an act of war by the US and Turkey against Syria and and now our base at Incilik is arguably a legitimate military target
4. for Assad and Trump's foolish move may also authorize Russia to attack Turkey or the US under the Soviet Syria mutual defense agreement that is believed to be part of the old Friendship Agreement.
