And while the rioting in Chile was trigged by electricity and transport hikes the underlying issues are multiple and systematic
Al Jazeera reporting that 8 have now been killed as the police and military try and suppress the protests with tear gas, plastic bullets and a curfew in the major cities - this is a movement against social injustice
Someone in the comments described Pinera as Pinochet 2.0 which seems fair - like Pinochet he has even declared 'We are at war'. Pinochet's war killed at least 3,000 - some estimates are far higher

We are seeing huge protests sweeping many cities across the world this month, Hong Kong, Barcelona & Beirut can be added to those in Chile with themes around state repressions, corruption & austerity
Also in places where there is less media attention like Sudan where despite severe repression protests against corruption and repression continue
