Why does Rachel Maddow keep saying “they” instead of “we” in talking about media responsibility for the “email scandal”?
I appreciate what she’s doing tonight. It’s important. But they all need to own their participation. “The media” isn’t something “other”—it’s ALL of them. None of them questioned it while it was happening or tried to expose it. NONE. I know. I’ve been waiting for years for it!
I didn’t mean this to be a Rachel bash. I see it as endemic to the media as a whole. When she began tonight, though, my hopes were lifted that she, like Toobin, would own the degree to which they all collectively allowed it to happen. When she didn’t, I felt it needed to be noted
