/ Me at age 38, versus me at age 42.

Today is my birthday. I'm not posting this just to show off. (I mean I am proud) I'm posting this because I am hoping it inspires somebody to do something to take care of themselves consistently. Me, age 38, very overweight, winning an Emmy for best double chin. Okay, really I'm just holding an Emmy I didn't win.Me, age 42, standing in the gym on the way out the door, after asking the lady that works at the gym to take a picture. (Sorta embarrassed)
/ it doesn't matter to me if it is trying to get more fit, spending more time with your kids, pursuing some endeavor you've been putting off. For my birthday, just do something for yourself. Make a small change and be consistent enough for it to snowball into a big change.
/ actually don't do it for me. Do it for you. If you don't think you're worth it (something I struggle with), then maybe the first small change should be just giving yourself a compliment. Try to understand how amazing you are, not just your flaws.
/ Whatever your small change, be consistent. Eventually it will become the new normal and you can introduce a new small change.
/ I'm rooting for all of you. Especially those of you, who like me, struggle with self worth, imposter syndrome, body image, etc.
/ I'm not saying "prioritize yourself above others", I'm just saying "practice self care" in some way. Try to make progress, however small, then celebrate it. Force yourself to appreciate your achievements, if you must.
/ for those of you to whom self worth comes easy, or at least are good at coping: Maybe help the rest of us. Lifting up other people has so much value in today's world, where it seems like people more often than not tear each other down.
/ Finally, be gentle and compassionate with yourself, and those around you. (No, You don't have to be nice to garbage people, like that dude that shit all over Twitter a couple of days ago) keep your guard up, protect yourself, but try to assume the best in people when you can.
