Not a day goes by that I haven't thought about that story from August detailing a disastrous employee town hall at NYT in which the paper's inconsistent and unethical reporting standards were laid out in embarrassing detail: slate.com/news-and-polit…
"By the first account, racist wasn’t powerful enough language to describe Trump; by the second, Trump wasn’t bad enough to call racist."

I mean...
Don't get me wrong: NYT does incredible journalism in so many ways, and there are also the moments when it seems they intentionally seek to avoid the scorn of--or seek the approval of--conservative voters. It's really bad.

Reflecting on what is likely hundreds of thousands of dollars (at minimum) that Mark Zuckerberg has spent on media prep and PR training and consulting, with very little to show for it.
I need to start my own media consulting company.
Me: I'm sorry, you're just really bad on camera. No one trusts you. Probably because of your history of fraudulent behavior.

Them: Oh.

Me: That'll be $50,000.

Why are men?
Context here: Andrew is referencing the half plus 7 rule-of-thumb for the minimum age of someone you can "reasonably" date at your current age.

Problem with his math here is that Dennis Quaid's new wife is 26.

I guess Dennis Quaid's wife could date someone who's 45.
The other issue here is that the rule is still kinda creepy and ineffective.

For example, at 33, under this rule, I could reasonably date someone who's 24.

I'm not saying that wouldn't work, but I am saying that I don't have a lot in common with 99.999% of 24 year-olds.

I'm willing to fight for someone I don't know.
You know, I didn't know that sharing this in good faith like a healthy human being should would mean a) I'm endorsing Bernie, b) have me accused of "stealing" Bernie's message, somehow, or C) have it claimed that only Bernie is fighting for people he doesn't know.

Disappointing.
So, no worries: next time some Bernie Sanders supporters spread what is initially a very positive message like this one, I'll be sure not to participate. There's no point in taking part if good faith efforts are going to be met with childishness and snark.

#Khashoggi Case Thread: I am going to ‘pin’ this post to use it as an ‘Info Thread’ on the #Khashoggi Case. I am in #Turkey. I’ve been following the case closely and with access to sources & experts here. This is a very ‘sensitive’ criminal case due to ‘Diplomatic Booby Traps’!!!
The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

Yes, commercial academic publishers currently have excessive profit margins. As most scientists, I am in favor of open-access (all my papers are freely available online). But those who wish big academic publishers dead often haven’t thought about the consequences. 1/13
First, the facts. Publishers do provide services. Besides editing and copy-editing and getting print magazines to print, that’s notably data-storage and retrieval systems. 2/13
There is also indexing, tagging, and other search-related functions, as well as the constantly necessary software updates. Having a pile of information alone isn’t enough, you also must be able to find the piece that you need. 3/13

1) I'm not sure how to make people remember or care that 15 years ago the United States invaded Iraq, setting off a war that continues to this day, with several hundred thousand Iraqis dead, millions turned into refugees. I covered the invasion for the New York Times Magazine.
2) Though I'm a writer, I shot photos during the invasion as I drove a rented Hyundai SUV from Kuwait into Iraq via Safwan, then up the spine of the country to Nasiriya, Diwaniya, Hilla, Kut and finally Baghdad. Here's the Hyundai on March 19, 2003. It's clean--that will change
3) The photographer I worked with, Laurent vander Stockt, drove his own SUV. After several failed attempts to get into Iraq, one time turned back at gunpoint by U.S. soldiers, we finally got through, via what we guessed was a minefield (I followed Lauren tracks). Here's Laurent.

Alright ayo it's @Claystanman here and for #BlackHistoryMonth we're thinking it'll be a good idea to try and spread knowledge of the history of Black American/African solidarity with and black folks' presence in #SouthAsian resistance.
Bayard Rustin, a gay black man who worked in movements for civil rights, socialism, and gay rights (later known as one of MLK's foremost organizers) organized the Free India Committee & was often arrested for protesting against British colonialism in Africa and India in the 40s.
Bayard's work in supporting the Indian independence movement was reflective of his internationalist approach.

He also participated in the March for Survival at the Thai-Cambodian border in 1980, and in 1982 founded the National Emergency Coalition for Haitian Rights.
