...with the assumption that "normal" is the US stationing 160,000 troops in Europe, spending $ 245 Billion a year paying rents for bases it uses, but only with European permission, & paying more than 75% of the cost of NATO, ... 2)
...while policing the world in areas for the benefit of European business, with little benefit for the USA & regardless of whether threats are really credible-- 3)
-- & that demanding that now prosperous Europe keep its promises & share the burden of its own defense & that Europe end one-sided tilted trade tariffs & move to fair & reciprocal trade conditions, is all destabilizing & bad & means the US cannot be trusted. 4)
That's the argument in short. The US Taxpayer, that has a problem with high debt, that works longer hours & harder than most anyone on Earth, is supposed to keep subsidizing everyone else, ... 5)
...because Mattis & the people who are paying him now, want to keep things as they are. Well, guess what? What if the US would just shut off all that subsidy, balance its budget, reduce its debt, & let others start to keep their agreements. 6)
