* 34% (377) were deaths of offenders supervised by National Probation Service (NPS) - up 31%
* Increase driven by rise in self-inflicted deaths: 337, up 19%, another record.

Important to note: these increases come at a time when the number of prisoners & offenders under community supervision is broadly stable - and before the recruitment of 20,000 extra police officers is expected to lead to more arrests, charges, prosecutions and prisoners.
And important to flag that the rise in deaths of offenders in the community is because of an increase in deaths among people supervised by the National Probation Service, which will be responsible for monitoring all offenders, under Govt plans, if Conservatives win next election
