BREAKING: The Government has rejected calls for a limit on how long people can be detained in immigration removal centres. Joint Parliamentary committee on human rights had suggested a 28-day limit unless there are "exceptional circumstances"....
The committee said the proposal had wide cross-party support. But Home Office said a time limit would "severely constrain the ability to maintain balanced and effective immigration control".
The Home Office response was given by @carolinenokes who was Immigration Minister until last week. I'm not sure her replacement has been appointed yet... a surprise given it's such a key role.
