July 2019, Iraqi National Intelligence Service intercepts a person by the name of Mohammed Ali Sajet al-Zoubai, Baghdadi’s brother-in-law & close aide. He crossed into Iraq and was traveling under “Othman Ahmed Farhan.
He‘d been tracked for a month after he entered the Iraqi borders. Within a month, he was captured as he entered Baghdad wearing his suicide belt, carrying a message to cells in the capital.

It started Sunday with a bizarre obituary for the world’s most wanted terrorist, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Someone decided the original headline that labeled Baghdadi a “terrorist-in-chief” needed to be sugar-coated and changed to “austere religious scholar at helm of Islamic State.”
On Monday, the judge who previously threw out Covington Catholic teen Nick Sandmann’s $250 million defamation lawsuit against the Washington Post reversed course and reinstated the case after reviewing an amended complaint.

Given Trump’s “speech” on #Baghdadi, I really need to do an extended thread about this issue.
The oft-mentioned "orange jumpsuits" in Trump's #Baghdadi's speech refer to the costumes #ISIS forced their victims to wear.

Guess why.

Those are the same uniforms worn by detainees at Guantanamo and other venues of indefinite detention in the War on Terror.

Intentional.
One reason why British and American hostages (use their NAMES: Jim, Steven, David, Alan, Abdurrahman [Peter]) were grouped according to nationalities was a specific "fuck you" to key partners in the Global War on Terror, and particularly - black sites, torture, rendition, etc.

I hate to say it, but if reported death of #Baghdadi is true (by suicide blast or Special Ops), it’s hardly the end of ISIS.

ISIS isn’t structured like Al Qaeda; ISIS’ organization was intended to be resilient in the event of decapitation strikes.

Regrouping won’t be as hard.
ISIS learned from Al Qaeda’s missteps - a network structure overly reliant on a singular charismatic figurehead like Bin Laden.

Post-Afghanistan, OBL was marginalized (in hiding); the Iraq war allowed (a new) Al Qaeda to regroup.

Baghdadi’s, sadly, death isn’t a game-changer.
