Hulu is raising prices because it has a wholesale transfer pricing problem. If Hulu gross margins are zero or even negative, as some people report, then that's technically referred to in the finance literature as "messed up." Even if gross margins are in the teens that's "awful."
Rich Barton said Netflix knew that to be in the oil business it had to learn to drill its own wells.

Hulu brings to mind a restauranteur who sells hamburgers for fifty cents, which was less than cost, reying to an inquirer about negative margins, “I’ll make it up on volume.”

It can be expensive to get a customer to surrender the optionality of buying the product 'just in time.' Buying just in time increases the ability of the consumer to direct their cash to new uses if conditions change. 25iq.com/2018/08/11/how… Subscriptions aren't always workable.
The less cash a consumer has the more valuable optionality is to them. A cash-poor consumer will pay more on a unit basis to buy just what they need (eg., a dollar store or using a prepaid phone) even though they pay more per unit of consumption. The rich buy more subscriptions.
Prepaid mobile was invented because some customers couldn't pass a credit check, valued optionality a lot and churned more. Churn is reported as an average but actual churn rates can vary based on factors like sales channel, demographics, license term etc. 25iq.com/2018/01/20/sup…

In seeking certainty, #entrepreneurs are looking for tried & trusted formulas so therefore they don't build the muscle to test & experiment their way to success.

As a coach I sometimes hear this as 'can't you just tell me!'

Which translates as; 'I just want the silver bullet'

(03/42) In other professional disciplines (#law, #medicine) there is a rich tradition of sharing innovations across the divide. In #business there are academic journals, practice-based materials, & important resources that span them like The Harvard Business Review @HarvardBiz.
