Sometimes all I can do is stare in awe at the power and efficiency of the imperial propaganda machine. When I first started this gig in 2016 Assange had way more support, from Berners, Greens, Trumpers, all across the spectrum. Now a large amount of that support has been eroded.
See this is what I'm talking about. You Trump people used to support Assange, now you're like "Sure, lock him up and extradite him, no biggie!" Everyone across the political aisle has been spoonfed a narrative designed to kill their support for Assange.
For Trumpers Assange is being extradited for his own good to bring down the Deep State. For liberals he's a Russian asset. For leftists he's a rapist and fascist enabler. There's a narrative for everyone, no matter where you are on the political spectrum. It's really impressive.
It's the propaganda, plain and simple. There's been a concerted narrative management campaign spanning all western nations and every political sector to kill public support for Assange. It's just like a war: manufacture consent, then go in for the kill.
And here we have the liberals, who've been persuaded that publishing authentic and highly newsworthy documents of Democratic Party officials talking to each other makes Assange "a de facto member of an election campaign to get a white nationalist elected".
Here's a Trump supporter saying it's okay that this administration is persecuting Assange because Assange is a CIA asset and they need information from him. Like I said, the imperial narrative management machine is truly impressive.
They're lining up to give me examples. Here's another Trump supporter arguing, on no basis whatsoever, that UK is acting alone in its persecution of Assange. For the record the US extradition request is the sole reason for Assange's continued imprisonment.
Here's another worthless Trump supporter who just popped up in my mentions on another thread. The "MAGA" crowd like to think of themselves as distinct from standard GOP partisans, but they're increasingly indistinguishable from Bush Republicans.
They're not all like that in fairness. Some are asking the right questions.
More propagandized insanity. AGAIN: Even if Trump were actually trying to free Assange in exchange for information (and he isn't), compelling a journalist to give up a source under threat of life imprisonment would be unforgivably evil and fascistic.
Here's an "I oppose the Trump administration's extradition agenda but I'll actively facilitate the smear campaign which led to it" hot take from a Bernie person.
