The likes of Smith are going to absolutely shit themselves when we impose an average worker's wage on all MPs. The day can't come soon enough.

In the meantime I hope more Labour candidates pledge to follow @NadiaWhittome and adopt it voluntarily.
Labour MPs should be there to represent the organised workers' movement. Their fortunes and conditions of living should be tied to ours. They should get a pay rise when we do. Not be given an income that puts them closer to the world of those they ought to be taking on.
And no, MPs on the left of the party, and trade union officials, are not exempt from this criticism.

What's striking about #3, beyond the bog-standard antisemitic trope, is that it's dripping w fundamentally conservative nationalism. "Foreign powers are subverting honest decent Britain!" Nah mate, the UK ruling class' alliance with Israel's is about mutual strategic interest.
This is the deeper level of antisemitism in how so much of the left thinks about Israel. When UK politicians ally with Erdogan or the Saudi royals, most people don't start looking for conspiratorial subversion, but the self-interest of our own rulers. Apply the same to Israel.
Capitalism isn't a conspiracy but an open social system based on the material interests of the capitist class - that applies to both "Rothschilds control the economy" and "Netanyahu controls international relations"

The idea that scientific innovation requires the profit motive is detached from reality. Pharma capitalism is totally reliant on the basic research done by academics in universities, funded by the state and charities.
BUT @francesweetman has some points about the pharma companies' need for exclusive rights if they want to maintain both R&D and profit (though they could be squeezed further than presently). But the obvious problem here is profit. Corbyn's proposals *don't go far enough*.
Beyond setting up a generics manufacturer to participate in the market, we need to take big pharma itself into democratic ownership. Integrate it w our university research sector and the NHS. Give direction of R&D to scientists, health workers & patients, not shareholders.

The point is, labour should be waging an aggressive campaign in the country right now that makes this argument at the centrists, to create pressure on them to suck up voting in a temporary pre-election minority labour govt.
Labour is the second largest party w 40% of the last election's vote, it would be pandering to the height of self-important delusion - and setting a precedent - to let stray tories, and a rump liberal party w 7.4%, think they get to dictate who governs in this parliament.
What is true is that this is a problem of Labour's own making. We should have been firmly establishing ourselves as the leading anti-brexit force from the get-go. If we'd done the right thing earlier, it would now be unthinkable for the centrists to be playing the games they are.

Hank feels like he's moving through a fog as he waits to get through security at the airport. It's odd, the way the world keeps moving even though something crucial has been cut out from within him. He's wounded, a gaping, ugly thing that he can hardly bear, but no one even knows
He thought something died a little bit inside him when Jen first told him she was leaving Detroit. They had been split for a while, and Hank was slowly adjusting to this new normal where he only saw Cole on weekends. It wasn't so bad, especially when he looks back on it now.

#Remain campaigners have every reason to be frustrated. But instead of attacking them (as Owen does), we need to convince them to stick with Labour

People who didn't see that synagogue attack coming, I think, don't understand antisemitism as a system of thought. Not so surprising. Usually the only people eager to give it much thought are Jews, antisemites, and people who study antisemitism for a living. Small group.
As it should be. Normal people have no reason or need to spend a lot of time getting into the minds of antisemites.

I don't think Trump's an antisemite. But I think he has an uncanny instinct for "things that work," politically. And he knows so little about antisemitism--
