The noise you hear is pots and pans...Exceptional time for country. Protests in week 3:
#Lebanon uprising has been a far reaching cry for major changes in system, but these demands relate particularly to women:

1-Allow women to pass citizenship to their children. Now not allowed
2-End Child marriage
3-Put In place stronger anti Harassment + anti marital rape laws

Once again on Syria , no clear direction from US. Erdogan unhappy that Bolton said US wants to protect Kurds (Trump said it before). Pompeo will try his hand in Egypt & GCC.

Russia patrols in Manbij Syria are a big deal. Moscow once again, using US-Turkey quarreling, uncertainty in Trump position, tension in Kurdish-US relations to its advantage in a terrain it knows well.

It has already hosted a Kurdish delegation to Moscow.

On US and Syria : Trump is pitching one message but Bolton is driving another. US officials in Syria telling Kurds one thing but US official Jeffrey in Washington is signaling another.

Pentagon has no response and State Department is trying to scramble all messages together.
Given the constant contradictions coming from inside Trump Administration, expect Pompeo & Bolton to face tough questioning on Middle East trip.

Do they speak for the President? Is US withdrawing/staying/letting Iran do whatever it wants/countering Iran or undecided?
On the ground, Russia & Assad wasting no time, using US inconsistencies to their advantage.

As @ibrahimhamidi reports, Kurdish delegation went to Moscow for mediation to reach deal w Assad. Meanwhile US officials now asking Kurds to hold back after offering no promises earlier

Erdogan Confirms Everything that White House Denied:

• Trump discussed Syria Withdrawal w him on 14th
• Trump asked him to take care of ISIS when US leaves Syria (Foreign country)
• Turkey appreciates gesture but is waiting, delays offensive vs Kurds thenational.ae/world/the-amer…
Essentially, Trump has delegated national security decisions to Turkish President in a country that’s neither Turkey or US.

He discussed it all w Erdogan, made decision before speaking to US military leaders on ground in Syria.

If this isn’t twisted logic, don’t know what is.
Also, Trump asking Erdogan to “take care of ISIS” is loud acknowledgement by POTUS that ISIS is not defeated in Syria.

So, why is US leaving? Why did Trump say ISIS is defeated?

Imagine if Bush or Obama asked Iran or Saudi to take care of Qaeda in Iraq & Yemen after US leaves.

In #Lebanon, "Lebanese Forces" (pro-US/pro-Saudi) are leading the closure of the streets, arming themselves with right demands of the population but different objectives.

Moqtada al-Sadr leads protestors in #Iraq coz he is an ignorant opportunist falling into US/Saudi objectives
Neither in #Iraq nor in #Lebanon demands of protestors can be met in days but in many months. Therefore, protestors requests aim to destabilise the country and dismantle the power of the Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers. Leaving no legislative of executive power = chaos

After the “Arab Spring”, I understand the skepticism about #Lebanon... But thus far, there is 0 indication these protests are anything but a genuine, spontaneous uprising against US-Saudi-French-backed elites and the corrupt-to-the-core system they’ve presided over for 30 years.
Why #Lebanon is revolting: Because our country has no proper working electricity, plumbing or health care; joblessness is rampant and living costs are high.

And all the while, the oligarchy that controls this awful system lives in lavishness.

Now Lebanese are saying “enough!”

Protesters in Lebanon are gathering downtown and blocking some roads with burning tires against government attempts to increase taxes. Though it’s unclear, disorganized and chaotic, one thing is clear: people are frustrated w/ the economic situation.
This comes after fires that spread across the country and the state was helpless to put them out bc the government didn’t pay to maintain the aircraft capable of putting out fires. People have had enough it seems
Protests in Lebanon continue. So much discontent over decades of corruption, economic stagnation and decline and a political elite that enriched itself while the country crumbles. This is similar I think to the frustrations that provoked protests in Iraq.
