1. Understand This to Save Yourself a Lifetime of Avoidable Pain

America has no easy problems left to solve. All stereotypical villains (became stereotypical b/c they were all real-life for too long) of the past have been defeated. This is a cause for celebration, not moping.

2. We now have some of the toughest of the tough problems to tackle:
- universal healthcare (real one, not necessarily the govt version)
- education reform
- efficient/cheap/sustainable/plentiful energy
- environmental and financial security for all
- wholesome communitarianism

3. First and foremost, recognize that we are lucky to have gotten to a place, thanks to relentlessly loving and extremely strenuous contributions of generations upon generations of our ancestors, to be confronting these problems going forward. These are problems of success.

4. At no point in human history things on the whole have ever been better for the vast majority of humanity than they are today. We should acknowledge that, while also acknowledging that life is still awfully hard for too many, and we should commit to doing our part to help them.

5. Finally, let us be sane and be acutely aware that none of the problems facing us now and going forward can be solved through pithy slogans or facile wealth redistribution schemes, no matter which political party or which leaders tell you that they can be solved easily.

6. Future belongs to those who are capable of intellectual honesty and are willing to put in the hard work. Others are just bystanders at best, and trouble-makers at worst. The most optimistic thought I have is that there are still plenty of the former around.
