Really appreciated @DrSenait acknowledging the field's tragic loss of Jennifer Schlecht @FP2020Global on today's @WLGH19 panel. We ALL exist in a system rife with GBV + the truth is every single woman is vulnerable no matter how privileged.
In our field we talk about issues like they are 100K feet in the air or happen to "those" women over there. 1 in 3 women has an abortion. 1 in 3 women will be raped or sexually assaulted, at least. Most of us have experienced both, and many more than once. And then some.
Not to mention emotionally abusive + controlling relationships + day-to-day harassment. That is just the norm, but we are so tired. Maybe if we personalized these issues - brought them down face-to-face from 100K feet. So painful but so fundamental to the radical change we need.
The problem is the burden on women to share their stories without the guarantee that it will "matter" to the system, and, worse, the real danger that it will backfire. It's a tension we need to hold. Anyway, just to say: THIS IS ALL VERY PERSONAL and don't forget it once.
