#BoomerAdvice or pro-Turkey botnet? Let’s find out, shall we?

cc: @ZellaQuixote
@ZellaQuixote Answer: a botnet, and we’ve seen it before. The bots in question push their messaging by piggybacking on unrelated trending topics. Since our previous thread, the network has evolved. (Accounts tweet in English and Turkish; we focused on English content.)
@ZellaQuixote This botnet repeats the same tweets across multiple accounts, generally with a variety of different trending topics attached. We used these repeated phrases to map out the network, which consists of (at least) 993 accounts.
@ZellaQuixote In a (mostly) new development since we last looked at this network, the bots now reply en masse to major accounts with messaging like “THE TURKISH ARMY IS THE MOST AFFECTIONATE AND COMPASSIONATE ARMY IN THE WORLD.” @ewarren and @realDonaldTrump are the most frequent targets.
@ZellaQuixote @ewarren @realDonaldTrump The 993 bots were all created in April 2019 or later, with most having been made in batches in July and August. Although each account individually tweets infrequently, the network as a whole tweets 24/7. They supposedly tweet via the Twitter phone app, but we suspect automation.
@ZellaQuixote @ewarren @realDonaldTrump Update: we found some new replies used by this botnet overnight (and some we'd overlooked due to minor variations in the replies foiling the repetition detection.) This brings the total size to 1403 accounts - the repeated tweets are a good summary of the propaganda being pushed.
@ZellaQuixote @ewarren @realDonaldTrump Second update: this botnet has now decreased in size from 1403 accounts to 16, by virtue of the other 1387 accounts getting suspended. #MondayMotivation
