Look...
You see our shiny boots and medal bars
I see survivors guilt and battle scars.
It helps to be with twenty soldiers with camaraderie
You see it as pageant; I feel that insecurity.
But nobody ever lets people escape the work
It ain’t about who makes it best; but more about who stayed around.
Behind the scenes, they say God gave us eyes to see.
But you don’t see the dark starts, long days and Sunday nights.
You see the pay rise and pension rights and think we’re laughing now.
But you don’t get that if we weren’t already, we’re a target now.
I see relentless graft, pride and hours spent.
To tell a lie, it wasn’t my intention to objectify;
But I can testify I’ve seen some shit you couldn’t rectify.
I see a bunch of stars and some fake love;
Fake handshakes, fake grins and career laughs;
Where everyone covers costs but never invests properly.
People trying to do their best
Even though we know selection’s bust
and ducks pick ducks.
I’m glad to be free of that clique and be myself;
To give my opinion and insights without fear of consequence.
On this Remembrance Day remember this;
We not all bad, mad and completely crazed.
But we do need your help
Especially when we’re settling down;
we’ve left the family
and might need some help.
Please be interested.
You never know when that hug, brew or joke might help us out.
The Army ain’t no paradise - but it ain’t no hell either.
We know it’s not for everyone but we’re all proud to serve this land.
We’re all wear the same shirt - but different hats
And all I can say, Is thank f***k for that.
Even in the face of lots of wrongs.
Next time you see that soldier standing there;
Please let them know with pride you always care.
