It is General Election day (again) in Spain. Here are key points regarding today’s election #10N 👇🏻
1. Spain returns to the polls for the second time in over six months as a result of Pedro Sanchez’s failed attempts to form a coalition government
2. The main goal is to break political deadlock and put an end to months of paralysis
3. Polls suggest the political landscape is still fragmented with no party likely to win a majority. The socialists would remain the most voted bloc
4. Polls also forecast a rise of the far-right party Vox. Back in April, Vox won parliamentary representation for the first time since the end of the dictatorship
5. The Catalan crisis has been the central issue of the campaign, leaving little room for discussion on the economy, education, health care, climate change, and so on
6. A lot has happened in Catalonia in the last weeks. The Supreme Court imprisoned the Catalan leaders who organized a referendum of independence 2 years ago, triggering mass protests and social unrest in the region
7. As a result, right groups have adopted a tougher stance on Catalonia and suggested banning political parties that favor independence
8. Today’s election will also provide a better picture on the momentum of the independence movement
