The very first time I had the usage of “our god” and “their god” was from Christians in the US. My Mormon informant told me she grew up thinking God was Mormon.

I found this idea absurd because in India we grew up thinking that God is one i.e. thee is only one God. 1/n
This issue is actually the biggest divide between the Gods of monotheism and the Gods of pagans.

Gods of monotheism are untranslatable. Jehovah cannot be transformed to Shiva, Allah can only be Allah.

Whereas Gods of native cultures could be mapped to one another. 2/n
You will see in different parts of India there are local deities and they will be called as a form of Vishnu or a form of Shiva and so on. Tribal deities could also be mapped. This allowed for pluralistic mapping and respect for the local without erasure of native traditions.

I saw in Beijing a massive theatrical performance of a young fighter's journey, replete with Indic ideas of moksha & transformation. Haven't see a single play like that in India, where the "progressive" circuit is stuck on ignorant 19th century European dogmas as "enlightenment."
While Quantum physicists were profoundly influenced by Hindu ideas in their discoveries, Indian "seculars' attack Hindu traditions non-stop as "superstition" (per Christian masters) and these are completely excluded from Indian education.

Thousands of destroyed temples in India. For supremacy of “their god” and destruction of “shirk.”
