Straw bans are garbage. "Real sad about a picture of a turtle and way too happy to dump on disabled people." isn't a principled moral stance. I will block people who want to argue. Including "just asking question" and "why not simply". Search engines are free.
If you want to eliminate plastic straws, fund research into alternatives *that do the exact work they do* (same flexibility, same resilience, same conductivity) and consult disabled people who rely on straws as you do it.
It's not the special job of disabled people to take on burdens to save the environment, and any "but surely they can make an exception if you need it" thinking doesn't survive contact with the real world.
Straw bans are the result of widespread public sentiment that demonizes the use of plastic straws. Graciously "allowing" disabled people to keep using them at their own expense just shifts the focus of the demoniztion.
A world where someone who pulls out a plastic straw is treated like someone lighting up a cigarette in an NICU ward and quizzed about their medical history or hounded from the premises is a world in which public life is made less accessible. And why? Because a turtle made us sad.
