One of my not-too-distant hopes for a human/AI hybrid is being able to respond to a query at work with:

"Appreciate the idea, I'm a no, same rationale as the August team meeting plus I think this pessimizes for startup acquisition" and have that made into 3 paragraphs w/ links.
"Did you mean this, Patrick?"

"The other August team meeting."

"Did you mean this?"

I know this sounds like it is almost Turing test AI but I really bet it is not, because work is such a constrained problem domain in X0% of the cases and because you have millions of words of me (and/or others who I'd trust judgement of) writing about those cases.

Would anybody have picked Microsoft as the most likely company to add four new Microsofts to the world in e.g. 2012?
I had to count the number of new Microsofts on my fingers twice because I was sure I was right with the four but uncertain about the year and didn't want to accidentally misstate growth by a Microsoft.
(I used to own a trivial amount of Microsoft stock and sold at some point to economize on mental bandwidth. This is one of the many reasons I rate my crystal ball for public equities as being unlikely to be better than the market's.)

This is true of the iPhone and a number of other technical artifacts, and it is underremarked upon.
On the consumer Internet side of things: everyone uses the same Google, functionally the same Gmail, *almost* the same Twitter, the same YouTube, extremely similar data pipes, etc.
On the producer side of the Internet, you don’t immediately run literally the same software as AppAmaGooBookSoft but you could have equivalent capabilities to a Fortune 500 company basically immediately, for a trivial amount of money, very literally running on the same box.

This morning as I was driving in to work @BBCr4today discussed a framework for ethics in AI after the £150m Schwarzman donation to Oxford Uni for a new Institute on AI and Ethics. Whoever was speaking was asked for examples... 1/9
Example given: A self driving car bombing down the road and the brakes fail - should the car go ahead killing pedestrians in its path or swerve to avoid them and instead kill the driver (such as the occupant might be). 2/9
Seriously - how may automotive engineers groaned as the classic trolley problem was brought up as an example. I really hope they don't fritter £150m trying to 'solve' the trolley problem! But there we are - it got mentioned... 3/9

1) Create world leading annotated datasets (with the right governance) to build #AI tools to deliver value back to the #NHS these are vital to ensure the quality of outputs and also dataset for us to standardise understanding effectiveness. A #UKBioBank for data?
2) Use these datasets to create a world leading regulatory environment to ensure value back to the #NHS The lack of regulation of AI prevents it being used in the #NHS before we even start with local implementation and change management (which is vital).

2/ I’d like to point you to an — overlooked, as often — academic paper that came out earlier this month. There’s lots of op-eds and papers written on the topic. No one has the time to read them all (and to be frank, many aren’t worth it.) This one’s different:

Many Iranians criticised one of BBC Farsi’s journalists for her comments on Iran-Hezbullah relations. Some have even threatened her that she won’t be allowed to go back to Iran after the fall of the regime. Many Iranians believe some of @bbcpersian journalists support the regime.
In the past few days some anti-BBC slogans have been chanted by the protesters in Iran. In a comment one of BBCFarsi journalist claims that ‘Trump wants to turn Iran into another Syria by starting a civil war etc’. The same propaganda which is pumped out by Iranian state media.
Some of @BBCPersian journalists block anyone who criticises them. One of its journalists in particular has publicly supported A.Khamenei on his social media pages. I have written to a few MPs and the BBC about. Will see if BBC is interested in opening an investigation.
