By the 2030s, Earth will have warmed ~2°C in the space of just 250 years.

It would appear that there is no record of ecosystems or species in the geologic past surviving this rate of change.

'most land animals will not be able to evolve quickly enough to adapt to the dramatically warmer climate expected by 2100. Many species face extinction, as a result.' theguardian.com/environment/20…
And ocean-dwelling species are disappearing from their habitats at twice the rate of those on land due to rapid climate change.

Extinctions set to become much more prevalent as global warming increases further by roughly 2-fold to 5-fold in coming decades:

'local extinctions related to climate change are already widespread, even though levels of climate change so far are modest...'journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…
Given local extinctions, the rapid rate of warming, and a whole range of other human activity related factors (political/economic), especially in relation to forests, I tend to agree that it is 'hard to think that there will not be many global extinctions'.news.mongabay.com/2017/03/climat…
Disturbing trend: mainland species are starting to go extinct.

"There is a growing wave of extinctions sweeping across the continents, driven mainly by habitat loss and degradation from unsustainable agriculture and logging".
