Next #iaem19 session is learning from @WaltDisneyCo on how they support families during crises through their Family Assistance program.
Here's what Maslow's Hierarchy of needs looks like supporting survivors during a crisis. #iaem19
Interesting- in the initial phase of a crisis, Disney focuses on Emotional Safety Needs by actively connecting people to their loved ones, rather than focusing on bringing in counselors in the early stages of trauma. #iaem19
This presentation includes videos of survivors and family members talking about the challenges they had in the aftermath of a crisis. Colin, who's son was injured in route 91, talks about how helpful it would be to have a person acting as a buffer while in the hospital. #iaem19
Another challenge from the survivor- the president came to visit three days after the shooting, and the family members didn't have any clean clothing to wear for the visit. They really wanted clothes that fit. #iaem19
Another Route 91 survivor talking about how hard it was to get information, especially because survivors of trauma don't want to watch the news to get info. Even press conferences always started with the investigation, which was hard for survivors to watch. #iaem19
Great concept from this survivor- in press conference videos separate the video of support services from the video of the investigation/injury/dead discussion. That let's survivors get straight to support services, without watching the traumatic section. #iaem19
A theme from Pulse and Route 91- we need better ways to tell the families of the injured or dead the status of their loved ones, especially in privacy. Watching family members of other victims react to status updates is an additional trauma on top of the crisis. #iaem19
