@SamLMontano I think it's partially related to challenges with the all-hazards preparedness push. You don't need to bring 3 gallons of water with you when you evacuate for a wildfire, but you should store as much as you can for an earthquake. 1/
@SamLMontano On our handouts that aren't hazard specific, we tend to go towards the worst case scenario for planning (7-14 days for after a major quake). Which can confuse people who have no idea how to carry all that water with them when they evacuate from a fire 2/
@SamLMontano Giving practical advice for the specific hazard is key. And that advice can definitely include planning for food, water, and backup power for several weeks after an earthquake. But for a fire evacuation kit, focus on what you need to get out and then rebuild your life. 3/3
@SamLMontano There's definitely some expectations management in there too. But when we get too general and vague, it's hard for the public to picture what we are actually preparing for.
