“No one believes anything” is:
A) what Hannah Arendt identified as the goal of totalitarian lies
B) the inevitable result of years of he said she said framing by the media
C) something the Times specifically has played a large role in
D) all of the above
“The result of a consistent and total substitution of lies for factual truth is not that the lie will now be accepted as truth and truth be defamed as a lie, but that the sense by which we take our bearings in the real world… is being destroyed.” - Hannah Arendt
When one party lies constantly, reality becomes a partisan issue. Now it has a liberal bias, and heaven forbid the press appear guilty of that. And the Times is as guilty as anyone of framing matters of fact as matters of opinion.
The real kicker here is the lead author, Sabrina Tavernise. She’s got a history of writing about “swing voters” who are really diehard Trumpers. Her involvement gives the whole game away.
“Gosh, it’s so hard these days to figure out what the truth is”, writes disinformation artist in the paper that keeps printing her.
Tavernise specializes in cherry-picking anecdotes to create support for a pre-established narrative that runs contrary to the facts. Clearly she was the right NYT writer for the job.
The NYT manufactures consent in different ways. Here they’re pushing the idea that the average citizen is “throwing up their hands and tuning it all out”. When in fact the majority support impeachment, and Watergate levels tuned in to the hearings.
