"The Russians' interests are frankly to delegitimize our entire presidency."

It worked. We've got an illegitimate president. And Republicans are boosting Russian propaganda and blocking bill after bill to defend our elections. They share Russia's goal.
Mueller testified in July that Russia is interfering "as we sit here, and they expect to do it during the next campaign". Within 24 hours, Senate Rs blocked three bills aimed at election security and blocking foreign interference.

On October 22, GOP Senators Thune and Kennedy blocked two election security bills. (On a completely unrelated note, Thune and Kennedy were two of the Republican politicians who spent their 2018 Fourth of July in Moscow.)

The next day, October 23, Senator Blackburn blocked three election security bills. (By total coincidence, her longtime friend and lawyer is the guy who introduced the NRA president to Russia.) rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
In the House, Devin Nunes - who was part of the Trump campaign and transition, and is close to Flynn - has used his position to defend Trump, Flynn and Russia and obstruct investigations of their crimes.
Delegitimizing the presidency doesn't stop there. Radical views on executive power and absolute privilege. McConnell refusing to announce Russian interference before Election Day. Stealing a Supreme Court seat. Republican interference in the 2000 Florida recount.
A presidency that can be won through cheating, voter suppression and treason isn't legitimate. A presidency that's above the laws in Republican hands, but can't get judicial nominations reviewed when held by a Democrat, isn't legitimate.
The modern Republican party doesn't want a legitimate presidency because they don't want a legitimate democracy. They want power. They want minority rule by rich, straight white Christian men.

It's easy to get lost in the details while we've got impeachment hearings and primary debates going on. Don't lose sight of the big picture. Democrats want democracy. Republicans don't.
