1) So... THIS got me down a fucking rabbits hole. Basically livetweeting as I research this.

So, her time in Somalia when she was around 1978, during the Jimmy Carter administration; I presume this as I keep seeing references to her being 20 when she was sent to Somalia.
2) Somalia, during this time, was in the middle of a back-and-forth struggle between US and Soviet influence.

So, basically a socialist revolution took over Somalia in the late 1960's/early 1970's, led by a Siad Barre.

Sorry, Mohammed Siad Barre.
3) That's right, it was a good ol' Islamic National Socialist regime, banning of all political parties other than the Somali Revolutionary Socialist Party.

Yuuuuup. LOTTA those Islamic National Socialist parties springing up in the 70's in that region, wasn't there.
4) So IN DEFENCE OF YOVANOVAVITCH, Somalia was already going to shit by the time she got there, what with the socialism infection. Jimmy Carter's dumbfuck idea was just to play nice with the Somali National Socialists and enable them as they tried (and failed) to invade Ethiopia.
5) With the loss of soviet support came... Oh, whaddya know. 1980 IMF bailouts.

Wonder how THAT went.

Oh, that's right, it was all stolen (WONDER WHO LET THAT HAPPEN) and by the 90's Somalia was still a shithole and Barre was overthrown, leading to the current shitshow.
6) This has NOTHING TO DO with Yovaskovavodkavitch, of course. She just happened to be a low level diplomat in Somalia at the time that millions in IMF funds and US aid money was embezzled by a corrupt AF party the US was trying to be friendly with. Totally NOT a trend in history
7) To note, I THINK the dates may be off on when she was there, I'm just doing off the cuff research. But, she was there as part of the State Department during Siad Barre's reign, and Somalia was a fucking sinkhole of US, IMF, and other such funds during that ENTIRE time.
8) So, let's take a look at when she was ACTUALLY AMBASSADOR. Kyrgyzstan, 2004-2008. Wonder what clusterfuck happened then?
9) Let's see... ah yes, Kyrgyzstan, a country that along with several other central asian countries broke off from the Soviet Union in the early 90's after the fall of the Berlin wall, gaining independence in '91.
10) Askar Akayev, who apparently payed lip service to communism but... "Although I am a Communist, my basic attitude toward private property is favorable. I believe that the revolution in the sphere of economics was not made by Karl Marx but by Adam Smith."
11) Dude runs a pretty economically sweet regime. Huge proponent of private property and the privatization of the economy overall, his opponents constantly accused him of ballot rigging when he kept winning reelection, that kind of shit.

Then comes 2005.
12) So, RIGHT WHEN YOVASKOVAVODKAVICH becomes ambassador, there's an election, and Askar Akayev had stepped down and not run for reelection, as he hit the term limit. His children are running, though.

Then comes the Tulip Revolution. Right in 2005

....

Yeah.
13) Oh, THERE we go. This Tulip Revolution? IT WAS A FUCKING COMMUNIST REVOLUTION.

AND APPARENTLY THE UNITED STATES HELPED.

Here's a NYT article from THAT VERY YEAR describing how the US State Department HELPED START A COMMUNIST REVOLUTION. archive.li/2udkD
14) "Talk shows produced in part with US gov grants, were broadcast over the country's few independent television stations... Osh TV in the south, where the protests that led to Mr. Akayev's ouster began. Osh TV expanded its reach with equipment PAID FOR BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT."
15) Whelp. Trump trick number whateverthefucknumberwe'reon. When he tweets, he throws out a bullshit fact to get people to dig for the real fact.

And here's the real fact:
16) The UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE, with YOVANOVAVITCH AS AMBASSADOR TO KYRGYZSTAN, helped kickstart a COMMUNIST REVOLUTION IN KYRGYZSTAN in 2005 with funding, grants, and the usual insane levels of graft.

Good job @StateDept just... good fucking job.
@StateDept 17) So, what happened with this glorious communist utopia the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE helped found?

Oh, the usual. Murder, anarchy, prison riots, excessive corruption.

Followed by ejecting the US airbase in Kyrgyzstan in 2009 after a $2 billion bribe from Russia.
@StateDept 18) Yeah, total RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY if the NEW YORK TIMES FUCKING TALKS ABOUT HOW THE STATE DEPARTMENT HELPED FOMENT THE 2005 UPRISING.

WHILE YOVANOVITCH WAS AMBASSADOR.

AND THEN THE COUNTRY WENT TO HELL.
@StateDept 19) I almost don't want to... but... 2008. Armenia. Yovanovitch becomes ambassador.

SO WHAT CLUSTERFUCK HAPPENED THEN?

Oh, that's right. Elections in 2008 that were followed by a week of bloody protests and crackdowns. Because, you know, that's totally normal.
@StateDept 20) And then, in 2011... Ukraine.

Fun shit. That other people can cover.
