1. I understand Dr Sydney Gata has been appointed Executive Chairman of ZESA, the power utility. I’m failing to understand the wisdom of this decision. Gata was until 2006 the Executive Chairman of ZESA. He lost the job, fought ZESA & lost. Now he’s back as top dog. Unbelievable! 
2. The story of ZESA’s collapse cannot be written without the name of Gata. As Mugabe’s brother in law, he was at ZESA for some time. When he was sacked he fought ZESA & won a house in the upmarket suburb of Umwinsidale. But last year he lost a US$10 million against ZESA
3. When he lost the top job in 2006 he told the media that the ZESA job was a “nightmare”. Now 13 years later he is back in the same job. What is he going to do that he could not do 13 years ago? ZESA is now arguably worse off now than when he left; indeed worse than he found it.
4. Last time, there were reports of clashes with the then Minister, a retired general, over board appointments. And the Executive Chairman position, combining board chair and executive authority is arguably against corporate governance rules for public enterprises.
5. When Energy Minister @fortunechasi advertised board positions he was praised for a fresh approach. No one could have imagined it would lead to the return of tried & failed hands like Gata, with a terribly murky ZESA history behind him. It’s a complete anti-climax. Flaccid.
6. I find it hard to imagine that after all the effort and promise this is the hand of Minister @fortunechasi It’s not an appointment that inspires confidence at all. Maybe Dr Gata will surprise us all. But history gives no cause for optimism at all. It’s a hard script.
7. It is cases like this that remind me in rare moments of forgetfulness, that we are going nowhere undervthis regime. Of all the candidates they could have head-hunted they went for an old hand who has previously been sacked & who has fought ZESA & lost? Complete bankum!
