NEW PAPER THREAD: Our paper on fiscal multipliers has just been released by @PIIE. We create a dataset of large fiscal expansions for 17 #OECD countries between 1960 and 2007… 1/8
2/10 The database is constructed by first finding when a country's cyclically adjusted deficit increased by a lot and then by reading OECD and IMF reports published in those years to check whether a fiscal stimulus did in fact happen at that time and why
3/10 Our first result is that it's crucial to complement the statistical approach to identifying large shift in fiscal policy with narrative evidence. Relying only on large shifts in the cyclically adj deficit to identify episodes of large fiscal expansions is a REALLY bad idea

A White House official speaking on background gave us (travel team) a short briefing about a G20 session on the digital economy.
2/ The official said that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe opened the session "with a call for unity, and for countries around the world to really think creatively about the challenges that we're facing with respect to the digital economy, as well as the opportunities.”
3/ This applied especially “in the areas of emerging technologies.”
The issues range from “skills and workforce to preventing things like terrorist content from proliferating online.”

Warum und was wären Alternativen?

A1. More on my take re OECD WG on Bribery:
Recall, the WG is made up of govt officials from states who are signatories to the Anti-Bribery Convention. Its monitoring and other work is supported by the OECD Secretariat’s anticorruption division. Source:WG annual reports #cdnpoli
A2. The OECD Sec does important work to help states improve public policies & processes through monitoring, reviewing, compiling best practices, guiding etc. Relevant to DPAs, the WG will be releasing a study on Mar 21 about Non-Trial Agreements by Parties to the AB Convention
A3. This will be an interesting read for Canada from a policy perspective to understand what has worked well or not in other jurisdictions that have DPAs.
