Let's be very clear that revisionist history is not the same as actual history. The US was in danger of having a one-party system: from 1968 to 1992 there was only one weak & reactive Democratic presidential term. Despite Watergate, Iran Contra & 138 indictments under Reagan.

LBJ was a truly socialist president, creating massive numbers of social welfare programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start. The white male plutocratic answer to this was Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush 1. Damn the corruption. Clinton dragged the Democrats out of oblivion.
Clinton also set a place at the table for women, POC and gays and put them in his White House and Cabinet. No one is claiming that Bill Clinton's presidency was not flawed. But it DID rescue the party and create a new, strong foundation.
