2/ This is some of wat I knw: From the time I was a kindergarten student in #SBCSC— the district was & still is under a desegregation order 🤦🏾‍♂️

3/ And, for the ppl in the back, segregation doesn’t happen in schools, it happens in neighborhoods. #MayorPete is the mayor of every (segregated) neighborhood in #SouthBend

4/ My mother who’s only 63Y got bottles & rocks thrown at her as she attempted to walk into LaSalle High School in the early 1970s. It wasn’t just Boston, y’all. #DesegregationSouthBendSchools #MayorPete #SouthBend

5/ What’s worse? Under #MayorPete watch former governor #MikePence attempted to take over Washington High School for “poor performance.” BTW, that school serves a whole lot of Black students. #MayorPete didn’t have 2 reach way back 2 the 80s that happened in #2015

5/ Right now, #SBCSC is considering closing that school. Again, he’s the MAYOR—still under #MayorPete watch.

6/ The middle school down the street has already been reconstituted 2 reflect the worst policies of neo-liberal education reform garbage. #MayorPete

7/ The worst of the bi-partisan, neo-liberal ed reform is destroying #SBCSC by siphoning off valuable resources 2 privately ran charter schools & in payment of private school vouchers

8/ There is a thread running through this narrative of what #MayorPete didn’t knw while mayor. The neo-liberal ed reform experiments being ran on low income students of color & immigrant students are the same ones ran on students in #Chicago, #NewOrleans #Philadelphia.

9/ #MayorPete campaign will say that these issues aren’t his responsibility bc #SBCSC is separate unit of govt.

10/ But, note: These students come from under resourced neighborhoods where there’s hi unemployment, hi-er than avg incidences of crime, & sub-par housing. Those challenges belong 2 him. He’s failed these communities.

11/ BTW, Anything #MayorPete didn’t know about is probably an issue/challenge/thing/person/community/people in a zip code west of the river.
